American police officials seem to be in no mood to learn their lesson or change their brutal ways. As if the murder of George Floyd, an African-American man who was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis on May 25, and the resulting nationwide protests were not enough, now, a video has emerged of an incident where members of the Buffalo Police can be seen pushing an old man, causing him to fall on the ground and suffer a critical head injury!

But what is even more shocking is how they completely ignore the man and walk past him, even as he lies bleeding on the pavement. The video was shot by Mike Desmond of WBFO and quickly went viral on Twitter:

But just when you think, it couldn’t get any worse, it turned out that the police were trying to spread misinformation about what transpired. Police initially claimed that the man merely tripped and did not admit to pushing him until WBFO’s video was released. WBFO reported that a Buffalo Police spokesman issued a statement at 8:50 P.M, Thursday saying “a 5th person was arrested during a skirmish with other protestors and also charged with disorderly conduct. During that skirmish involving protestors, one person was injured when he tripped & fell.” However, after WBFO released the video at 9:13 P.M, the police’s story changed dramatically!

Not only were two officers involved in the incident; Aaron Torgalski, 39, and Robert McCabe, 32, suspended without pay, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown also issued the following statement:

But things once again began to go downhill from here. On June 5, all 57 members of the Buffalo Police’s Emergency Response Team reportedly resigned to express solidarity with Torgalski and McCabe. On June 6, both officers pleaded not-guilty to the charges against them and were released without bail. If convicted, they face up to seven years in jail.

The victim has been identified as 75-year old Martin Gugino and the video clearly shows that he was non-violent, and did absolutely nothing to merit the mistreatment by the police. He was admitted to the ECMC Hospital with head injuries and a bleeding ear.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Police have received scathing criticism for their brutality and callousness.
